So in this book The Colour Purple by AliceWalker...
Shug Avery was asking Celie, what her idea of God was?
Celie replied,
"big, tall, bearded with prolly bluish-gray eyes"
... But Shug disagreed
She said she believed that God is inside all of us... That God is everything; everything that was, that is and that will ever be...
This didnt mak complete sense to me at 1st but it kinda does now...
For most of us, me inclusive... When we think of God, we see a man. Like Celie, We see a big man; tall, prolly with white hair and beard, giant feet... I've never thought of the eyes though... But if u ever watched the Hercules cartoon, the 1st one ever... That part where he goes to the temple and sees that statue of his father that later comes alive... I've always kinda imagined that scene as God and man...
Why do we think of God as a man?? Prolly cos the Bible tells us we were made after His image&likeness... But the same Bible tells us that God is not a man... So what do we believe??
I know that in the end, by His grace.. Many of us will know what God looks like... But before then... Remove that image from your head and dont think of God as a man; its awfully limiting.
But like Shug, think of God as everything; The sometimes blue skies, the sun, the moon_half or full, the roses& its thorns, the trees and weeds as well, the air around us, the ants, lions, tortoise, giraffes, every creature that ever existed even the dragons,dinosaurs, tautaras & leviathan, harmattan, winter, spring, pink, purple, white, black colours, even us humans... Every damn thing. God is everything, Everything we see & dont, everything we hear&dont, everything that moves and everything that stays.
So the next time you're praying, praising or even just thinking of Him... Look at everything around you, think of everything before you, look inside of you and know that all of it is God...
And i dont know about you... But knowing that someone who is everything and prolly more, loves me and died for me, makes me feel like the luckiest person in the world... And you should too.
