Body Count: why it matters and why it shouldn't
"Cynthia, what's your body count?", Surprised by the question, she gives off a phony laugh and says 4. Mabel who sits just opposite Cynthia has her eyebrows raised and winks at her, she had never heard a more resounding lie all night. As they walk home gossiping about all that happened at the party Cynthia gets a playful nudge from Mabel, "four My nyash". They both giggle about it but late that night with Jeffrey and Mabel as company, she asked the room their body count. Mabel lit up gesturing how long she had been waiting on that question,"I counted o, it's actually seven, I'm not counting what I had with Raymond and that other foolish boy I can't even remember his name". Jeffery insists Mabel isn't being honest with her number and puts his at 9.
"What's your body count Cynthia" they chorused. Cynthia tells Mabel she's only telling if she's honest with her number. Mable obliges, Cynthia finally lets the cat out of the bag,"twenty nine" and it sets the room on fire. Mabel has her jaw dropped for an eternity but surprisingly Jeffery didn't have any sustained emotion and had this to say;
"Why does one's body count matter, why should one decline being pleasured. Why does sex matter so much; how more or less a person is getting, who or whom a person is thrusting into or receiving in, why?"
I think I have the answer to Jeffery…
Maslow's hierarchy of needs inputs sex as one of the most basic human need alongside water, sleep, food and shelter. Sex according to Marlow( and a host of other scientist who agree with him) is a primal need , it's in our very core to need it for proper functioning and sustainence. It's fair to say just as much as a hungry man is angry man, so is a sex-less man( or woman or people with penis or uterus or whatever shit you all say these days).
My point? Humans like sex and they like it alot because they are built that way. We are born with the craving for another's tongue, hands and genitals in and on us. This craving is also the easiest to satisfy. You literally have toil for a good place to stay, safe water and food. For sex to happen you need the excuses of love, feelings, connection, vibes etcetera. Humans, unsurprisingly, would major in the easy thing to get.
To the gist of the matter,Body Count! Why does it matter? Religion and Culture. These two are the pillars of our society, they dictate what is accepted and what's despicable. Culture and religion shake hands in agreement that a man is allowed measures of polyamory, and that same gesture isn't extended to women.
The bible expressly states that the ideal is monogamy but I do not remember any bible reference where God frowned at polygamy, Maybe I am wrong.
Culture isn't even subtle about it, it's a stern No for women wanting more than one man's penis. To culture, a woman is meant for the kitchen or her man's bed and any woman who dares go against the unwritten laws would be branded any of the following names: whore, prostitute and my favorite ,"ashewo". We have been programmed by society to believe that a woman should do her utmost best to keep her legs closed and a man should do his all to open as many female legs as possible. You already see the flaw in this construct huh? So yeah, Body Count matters because religion and Culture that we hold so dear says it does.
And finally to my message, why it shouldn't matter.
I am a man staring 30 in the face and I remember what it was like growing up. Back in my day, a woman marrying as a virgin was such a celebrated thing, it wasn't seen as anything abnormal. In Fact it was the ideal thing.
Fast-forward some years into the future, virginity had become a thing of choice. There used to be this popular argument on radio, if men wanted to marry a virgin or not. Such a question was non-existent a few years back.
My point Is this, times have changed and will continue to do so. People are growing not to give a rat's ass about culture and religion. People, young people believe these cultural laws are backward and misogynistic and they demand sexual liberation. This demand isn't fully established yet but it is the future. The future promises a level playing field with Women having as much sexual freedom as men. The future is alot of sex for everybody till the term 'body count' is obliterated from existence.
Lastly, and I mean it this time, another important reason why body counts shouldn't matter? What can you do about it? You can't make a sex unhappen, what's done is done. All that has happened before you came into the picture cannot be altered, all that's left is the future. So yeah, focus on the future.
