The Easter Talk

I'm a Christian, a bad one maybe but I believe in Jesus Christ; that He was born to die for me and you and that he resurrected but I'm not sure about the dates, I don't know if he was born December 25th or that the Easter dates vary....
I'm not sure we are asked to celebrate his birth and death but people do. I don't know why but they do and many times, I join them in celebration. I help in killing the chicken and of course, eating it. I like the merriment, joy and the laughter.
I'm not writing to ruin the very essence these celebrations and I'm sure that's a battle I could never win in a million years. I'm writing to expel the heightened falsehood in the 'spirit of the season'.

What do i mean?
Today, marking the death of Jesus Christ. I go through my Recent Status Updates on WhatsApp, it's filled with
"He's risen"
"He Arose"
And even "He's Rising"
Everybody seems excited, but about what exactly?
That Jesus died and Rose again?
Did we ever forget?
So I ask my mother who went to church as early as 8 for a church that starts around 10 all in the name of Easter why she celebrates Easter? She says it's not about the date but the implication of his death; the liberation that God did for us by dying. It's marking our liberation from the shackles of sin.

And then I say, isn't that what we live in everyday? Isn't that the essence of our everyday Christianity?

And then she shuts me up with a brilliant answer
She says, as humans, we do love to celebrate but it is more than just celebrating. It's a pure Honour to give a certain date to mark His wondrous deeds.
It's like the love you have for you Mother, you never love her less but on her Birthday, you do the most for her. It's just Honour. Celebrating Easter is nothing more than Appreciation to Jesus.

It made sense to me. Dates refresh deeds in our forgetful minds.

If you don't fully buy my Mom's reason, here's something else....
A reason to fully celebrate these seasons is in that the world is in dire need of breaks.
Breaks make time from work, the hustle and pennies
Breaks make up time for extended family; time to visit grandma and see distant relatives.
Breaks make up time for some needed merriment.

The world needs more of breaks.
