Breaking News

just imagine

"The cancer has metastasized. She has roughly one month to live. All I can advise now is that she goes back to her country and prepare to die. Nothing can be done. I'm sorry." the doctor said without remorse in his eyes. Of course he wasn't sorry.

"You have been found guilty of this, that and some more by this honourable court and you are hereby sentenced to  death by hanging or by a firing squad, whichever is more convenient."the Judge said with a straight face.

"Thief ooooo.... Oloriburuku. God don catch you! Alaye bring tyre fast fast before olokpa(police) come. Good, oya put am for e neck make I strike the match..." the agbero said with glee.

It is easy to be the one talking. It is easy to be the cancer specialist overseas or the Judge or even an agbero. It is very easy.

It is easy to give someone a death sentence, whether it is at the hospital or the court of at a slum at one corner of town... It's very very easy. These are easy words to say. They won't even bother you as you say them because you will never see these people again.

It is easy to shut people's eyes forever. Very easy.

What isn't easy is being the one hearing these words.

"You will die soon... very soon. One of these days you will die. I don't know when exactly but I'm telling you now... you're going to die oo. Just know."

There is no one that has ever walked this earth that deserves to hear these words. No one.

Imagine yourself being the one standing in the dock hearing the death sentence.
Imagine yourself being the patient on the bed being told that one disease is eating you up and nothing can be done to stop it.
Imagine yourself, finally deciding to steal and eat because you would have probably died anyway...
and then you have to face jungle justice.
Imagine someone struck the match at you... not the other way round...

Perhaps you have a friend or relative that has heard these words. I'm sure you felt really bad when you saw your beloved trying to smile and be strong for you even though the death sentence had been passed already.
Now imagine you were the one that got the sentence.

Imagine it was you the next time you pass a death sentence on someone else.

Don't just read these words. Imagine.
