The HITMAN'S BODYGUARD Review

[potential spoilers ahead]

Rating : 6/10

IMDB Rating: 7/10

Rotten Tomatoes: 38%

The hitman’s bodyguard is a 2017 action comedy film about an old killer and his young bodyguard who is hired to protect him as he must testify at the international criminal court against his former employer and notorious dictator. Turns out they have a bit of history but they must work together to reach the court alive after previous witnesses always turn up dead.

The movie stars Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L. Jackson, Gary Oldman , Salman Hayek and Elodie Yung.
Overall, the movie is one hell of a ride, blending its hilarious tone (Thanks to the chemistry between Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson) and its engaging action sequences.
While the movie delivers on that front, it fails however to deliver a more intriguing plot to match with the talents on show, it felt more like “a cat chase mouse and we all know the mouse will run into its hole anyway” scenario. Overall, a good movie worth almost two hours of your time.
Best Character: Darius Kincaid (Samuel L. Jackson)

I find it hard to believe that this movie was named after his bodyguard because it felt more about him (well “the hitman” is a name of another movie). Reynold’s fanboys will have a thing or two to say about this but we all know as good as he was in this movie, much of his love is coming from his role as “deadpool”.
Samuel is just pure bliss, I always argued that his best works are outside the marvel cinematic universe (as Nick Fury) and this is another proof. He provides most of the laughs and boy are his facial expressions funny.

Worst Character: Ivan (Yuri Kolokolnikov)
I seriously had high hopes for this guy being the badass in this movie, he literally lifted an attendant with one arm but bias towards the comedic nature of this movie let him down. Seriously? Killed in a mech shop while suffocating but after he got a nail to the head and an axe to the stomach, how the hell did the chain go round his neck again? He actually lacked the fear factor most bad guys should have.

Other notable Mention: Amelia (Elodie Yung)
Good to see her outside her “Elektra” role but she was limited on this one, expected more screenplay for her and oh the choreography of her fight with Jean Foucher (Joaquim de Almeida) is one of the worst I’ve ever seen.

Best Scene: Michael (Ryan) talking to Darius (Samuel) about all kinds of security at his home in Amsterdam as he tries to bust in after losing the pass, only to find Darius (Samuel) in the apartment already
